Custom water softeners
On the border between the densely populated residential district of Laeken and the port of Brussels stands Tivoli GreenCity, a real estate project with some 400 apartments spread over 5 buildings. The entire project exudes ecology and fits perfectly into the thematic framework of sustainable urban development. Through the intermediary of the property manager Syncura, with whom we have already had the pleasure of collaborating on several occasions, we were asked to install custom-made water softeners.

A correct estimate without surprises
As with any project, our first step was a site visit. We examined the available space, looked at where the water meters were located and estimated the water consumption per apartment. This estimate did not require any intervention from a design office. Thanks to the experience we have accumulated as a manufacturer and installer, we have all the necessary knowledge in-house to calculate the required equipment.
The final offer included an estimate of the overall cost price of the installation. The quote included not only the price of the device and the installation but also the annual cost of salt and maintenance. In this way, neither the trustee nor the ACP risk any unpleasant surprises when they receive the bill.
Tailor-made solutions
EcoWater installed water softeners in 3 buildings of the Tivoli complex: 2 in duplex assembly, the third in triplex. In the latter case, the available space was not high enough to be able to mount the installation in duplex.
The 3 smaller softener bottles, combined with 1 salt tank, therefore offered the perfect solution. These 3 tanks are also controlled by a single controller: a unique solution that only EcoWater can offer. This means that the co-owners can benefit from the advantages of soft water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Minimal disruption to residents
EcoWater installs its water softeners in new buildings, but also in existing buildings. In this case, it was a project that had already been completed; we therefore had to operate with the available space and without causing too much disturbance to the residents.
That is why we pre-assembled as many elements as possible in our workshop in Olen. This allowed us to keep the time spent on site at Tivoli GreenCity and the duration of the power outage to a minimum.

Protection of the heating system
The main reason for purchasing these softeners was the desire to protect the heating system.
This project included a common room dedicated to heating and connected to the supply circuit, the water having to be heated by heat exchangers before being distributed between the different apartments. Scaling has harmful consequences for these sensitive devices that are the heat exchangers; in addition, it reduces efficiency and increases energy consumption because the limescale deposit acts as an insulator. On the other hand, by using soft water, the exchangers will last longer and guarantee maximum efficiency.

Soft water is extremely advantageous, especially in cities where the tap water is hard. In Brussels, for example, the water hardness ranges from 35 to 40 French degrees. The distribution company considers water to be “soft” when it does not exceed 15 French degrees. Even then, scale will therefore continue to form, but to a lesser extent. With EcoWater water softeners, you get a hardness of 7 French degrees: at this level, there is no question of scaling.
